Focusing on fuel shortage for tourism

“Focusing on fuel shortage for tourism is a positive step. However, it is important to design a practical scheme that does not send a wrong message. The individual tourist has to go to a bank, assess the fule requirement for his trip, pay for fuel, then likely go to the fuel station themselves to top up, as they may not be comfortable to part with the fuel card. “Said the Ms. Kimarli Fernando.

Furthermore, she said that, if this scheme is communicated overseas it sends the message that we are short of fuel, and that it is being rationed. What should be also supported is local Tourism operators paying for fuel in USD where possible and top up vehicles as needed without hassling the tourist. In cases of transport providers who do not have access to USD, they could possibly use the tourist card.
