Sirima Bandaranayake created his Tory as the world’s first woman Prime Minister when appointed on July 21, 1960 and was the world’s oldest serving Premier when she stepped down at the age of 84.

J.R.Jayewardene was 7th  prime minister of Sri Lanka. Junius Richard Jayewardene commonly abbreviated in Sri Lanka as J.R., was the leader of Sri Lanka from 1977 to 1989, serving as Prime Minister from 1977 to 1978 and as the second (First Executive) President of Sri Lanka from 1978 to 1989. He was a leader of the nationalist movement in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) who served in a variety of cabinet positions in the decades following independence. A longtime member of the United National Party, he led it to a landslide victory in 1977 and served as Prime Minister for half a year before becoming the country’s first executive president under an amended constitution.

When Neil Armstrong stepped down onto the moon’s cratered surface with the words, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,” every nation on earth seemed to breathe a collective sigh of relief.  National Moon Day celebrates not only the historic lunar landing on  July 20, 1969, but the day also reminds us of the uphill slog to get the space program literally off the ground.
