Steps to amend the Motor Vehicles Ordinance to register electric three-wheelers

The Cabinet has approved measures to amend the Motor Vehicles Ordinance so that electric three-wheelers can be registered.

The existing Motor Vehicles Ordinance allows registration of diesel and petrol vehicles but there is no provision for registration of electric vehicles. Accordingly, Mr. Bandula Gunawardena, as the minister in charge, had submitted this proposal to amend the Motor Vehicle Act to register electric three-wheelers.
