On the occasion of the 75th Independence Day, arrangements have been made to hold a Republic Parade in Kandy on the 19th.

President Ranil Wickramasinghe is also going to participate in the opening ceremony of the Perahera

This has been organized with the aim of promoting the tourism sector. On special occasions in the country, at the request of the government, such special processions were organized by Sri Dalada Maligawa on several occasions.

The first perahara organized in this way was held in 1875. The last republic rally was held in 1987. That was according to a request made by Mr Ranasinghe Premadasa, who was the Prime Minister at that time.
