Did you know that there is an older clock tower in Sri Lanka than the famous Big Ben clock tower in England?  The first clock tower in Sri Lanka is located in the Colombo Fort, which occupies a prominent place among the monuments of historical importance in Colombo.

This lighthouse clock tower, which silently bears many memories of Colombo’s past, is located near the President’s house.

Do you know that the length of Sri Lanka’s four-way road system is calculated from the base of this hour pillar? That means the distance from Colombo to Jaffna and the distance from Colombo to Galle.

Established by the British government in Sri Lanka, this was a matter of astonishment for the people of Lakka as they had never seen it. This clock tower was designed by the wife of Mr Henry Ward who was the governor of Ceylon at that time. Lady Emily Elizabeth’s ward was the government of Ceylon at that Lady Emily Elizabeth Ward was a talented artist.
