Rapidly construct Phase 3 of the Indian Housing Project in Sri Lanka

According to the Indian High Commission in Colombo, India and  Sri Lanka have exchanged Diplomatic documents clearing the way for a threefold increase in the unit cost of a house under Phase 3 of the Indian Housing Project.

Gopal Baglay, the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, and Jeevan Jeevan Thondaman, the Minister of Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development, exchanged diplomatic documents.

The Indian High Commission has announced the completion of Phase-3 of IHP, which will enable the construction of 4,000 houses in plantation areas of Sri Lanka. This comes at a critical juncture when the Indian-Origin Tamil community marks 200 years of their arrival to Sri Lanka and 100 years after establishing the Assistant High Commission of India in Kandy. These milestones will be commemorated by the government of India and Sri Lanka through joint initiatives and establishment of 75 years of diplomatic relations.
