China Approves First Home-Produced mRNA Covid Vaccine for Emergency Use

China has given the green light to its first domestically produced mRNA Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use, according to CSPC Pharmaceutical Group. The move comes after the country refused to approve foreign-made mRNA shots for widespread domestic use. The mRNA technology was used commercially for the first time in Covid-19 vaccines, and jabs using messenger RNA are designed to generate an immune response that trains the body to fight off the real virus when it comes into contact with it. The vaccine was found to be effective in trials when used as a booster shot for those who had already received other vaccines, and the incidence of adverse events was lower in the elderly group compared with adults. The news comes as cases fall in China, and its leaders recently declared a “decisive victory” over Covid-19.
