In a bid to provide more relief to low-income earners, the Sri Lankan government has announced its intention to negotiate further with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The announcement was made by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena at an event held in Maharagama to distribute free rice to low-income earners under the government’s paddy purchase program.

According to the Prime Minister, several countries have pledged their support to Sri Lanka to help the nation recover from the economic crisis. The government is committed to easing the cost of living and intends to make efforts to relax the rules for importing goods.

The move comes as Sri Lanka faces economic challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a decline in tourism. The government has been implementing various measures to mitigate the impact of these challenges on the economy and its citizens. The negotiations with the IMF are expected to provide additional support to low-income earners and help stabilize the country’s economy.
