Lanka Sathosa Reduces Prices of Three Essential Food Items Ahead of New Year Festivities

Lanka Sathosa, the state-owned retail chain, has announced a reduction in prices for three essential food items ahead of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year festive season. In addition to the 12 food items whose prices were cut last week, Canned Fish, Big Onions, and Wheat Flour will now also be sold at lower prices. The move is aimed at providing some relief to consumers during the upcoming holiday season.

Effective tomorrow (April 07), the new prices are as follows: Canned Fish will now be sold at Rs. 30 per kg, down from the previous price of Rs. 490; Big Onions will be sold at Rs. 22 per kg, reduced from Rs. 97; and Wheat Flour will be sold at Rs. 10 per kg, down from Rs. 225. These price reductions are expected to benefit consumers and help them celebrate the New Year with more affordable food options.
