Weather Update: Showers and Thundershowers Expected in Several Provinces in Sri Lanka

The Meteorology Department has forecasted showers or thundershowers in several provinces of Sri Lanka. Eastern, Uva, Northern, North-central, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces are expected to experience showers during the afternoon or night, with some places likely to receive fairly heavy showers of over 50mm. Showers or thundershowers are also expected in other areas of the country during the afternoon or night.

The Western province, as well as Galle and Matara districts, may experience showers in the morning as well. The public is advised to take precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

In the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle, showers or thundershowers are expected. Wind speed will be 20-30 kmph, with south-westerly winds prevailing over sea areas around the island. The sea areas around the island are expected to be slight to moderate, but temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. Stay updated with the latest weather information and take necessary precautions for a safe and hassle-free day.
