New Procedure Introduced for Issuing National Identity Cards (NIC) Without Birth Certificates, Says Department for Registration of Persons

The Department for Registration of Persons has announced a new procedure for issuing National Identity Cards (NIC) to individuals who do not possess birth certificates. The Commissioner General of the department has confirmed that a circular containing instruction on the process has been sent to all Divisional Secretaries and Grama Niladhari Officers.
This move is aimed at facilitating the issuance of NICs to individuals who may not have a birth certificate, making it easier for them to obtain this crucial identification document. The new procedure is expected to streamline the process and ensure that more individuals are able to obtain NICs, which are essential for various official transactions and services in the country.
