In a major development, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) has reported a disruption in the water supply to several areas in Sri Lanka, including Kotte & Kaduwela MC areas, Maharagama & Boaralesgamuwa UC areas, Colombo 04,05,07 & 08. The reason for the disruption has been attributed to a major leak on the main transmission pipeline that leads to the Jubilee Post Water Tank in Kotte. The leak was reported close to the Polduwa Bridge.

According to Anuruddha Perera, the Assistant General Manager at the NWSDB, a certain group is believed to have removed more than 40 bolts that keep the pipeline with a diameter of 1,100 mm intact, causing the major leak and disruption of water supply. He added that an investigation is underway, led by the security forces, to ascertain the perpetrators behind this act.

The NWSDB has also stated that the water supply will be interrupted till 9.00 pm on Friday (28) in the affected areas due to the breakdown of the transmission pipeline from the Ambatale treatment plant. This incident has caused inconvenience to the residents of the affected areas, who are now facing a shortage of water supply.
