A large fire broke out on a container cargo ship about 102 nautical miles away, with explosions at the front of the ship. The vessel was en route from Mundra port in Gujarat to Colombo in Sri Lanka. A Coast Guard spokesman said one of its ships immediately diverted to the stricken vessel as soon as the distress call was received.

An Indian Coast Guard ship has reached the area and is carrying out a firefighting operation amid rough seas and bad weather conditions. Additionally, two ICG ships have been dispatched from Goa to augment firefighting efforts. The crew is assured of their safety.
