Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina landed in India’s northeastern Agartala today. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday and fled the country as more people died in the worst violence since the South Asian nation’s birth more than five decades ago. Army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman announced Hasina’s resignation in a televised address to the nation and said an interim government would be formed.
Bangladesh has been engulfed in protests and violence since student protests against reservation in government jobs escalated last month.
About 250 people were killed and thousands injured in the violence.
