Volkswagen factory opens today

Senior Advisor to the President Akila Viraj Kariyawasam says that the Volkswagen factory, which is the largest automobile assembly factory in South Asia, will be opened today under the chairmanship of UNP Deputy Leader President Ranil Wickramasinghe.

The factory, operated by Western Automobile, currently assembles 25 vehicles daily and this is located in Kuliyapitiya.

The facility will create 1,000 direct and 1,000 indirect jobs, with a training school for professionals also planned. This initiative is expected to reduce vehicle costs, making cars more affordable for Sri Lankans.
