India’s first underwater metro service in Kolkata

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate India’s first under-the-river metro tunnel in Kolkata on March 6, marking a significant step forward in the city’s urban transport. The Kolkata Metro extension, specifically the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade metro section, will feature the country’s first tunnel under a major river.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for extending the Pune Metro Rail project’s phase 1 between Pimpri Chinchwad Metro-Nigdi. This promises ongoing improvement in urban transit infrastructure. These projects aim to make transportation smoother, more efficient and easier for the public.
